The Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy (SGAA/SSAA), founded 9 November 1968, is a professional society, member of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (scnat) and part of its platform Mathematics, Astronomy and Physics (MAP).

The purpose of the Swiss Society for Astrophysics and Astronomy is to

  • promote research and education in the field of astrophysics and astronomy;
  • participate in the training of scientists by organising specialist courses;
  • support the mutual orientation, co-operation and joint scientific scientific endeavours of astronomers in Switzerland;
  • inform interested parties about the concerns and requirements of astronomical research;
  • develop contacts with foreign institutions.
