1. Reminder

Upcoming deadline for Edith Alice Müller Award Nominations - Deadline: 15 June, 2026

Further details on the E.A. Müller Award the list of the awardees from previous years can be found here.

2. Reminder to pay the 2026 membership fee

The 30 CHF annual SSAA membership payment can be made via the QR code that can be found here.

Please note that the previous method of credit card payment (recurrent or not) does not work anymore. Therefore, if you had a recurrent payment, please use the QR code and set up a recurrent payment via your bank account, if you wish.

3. Call for MERAC Funding Applications: 30 September, 2026

The SSAA is pleased to announce the 2nd call in 2026 for the MERAC awards. Since 2013 the SSAA committee distributes Funding and Travel Awards (20’000 Euro per year) sponsored by Foundation MERAC (Mobilising European Research in Astrophysics and Cosmology), a nonprofit foundation in Switzerland to recognise, encourage and promote the research and mobility of young European Astrophysicists and Cosmologists.

4. Call for new members of the SSAA committee: Secretary and President/Vice-President

The SSAA committee is searching for two new committee members:

The second term of the President, Margit Haberreiter, is coming to an end. Marc Audard, currently Vice-President, stands for election for President. If he is elected, the position of the Vice President will be vacant.

Furthermore, our Secretary, Oliver Müller, resigned one month ago for professional reasons. Currently, Sylvia Ekström from Uni Geneva is our interim Secretary. Sylvia kindly offered to stand for election as Secretary of the SSAA.

5. Call for Saas Fee Advanced Courses in 2028 - Deadline: 7 October, 2026 (at the GA)

Please submit proposals for the Saas Fee Advanced Course to be held in 2028 to at the latest by the business meeting (7 October) of the GA.

6. Next SSAA General Assembly

7 - 8 October, 2026 at the University of Bern; Abstract submission deadline: 15 September, 2026

The next General Assembly will be held on Wednesday, 7 October, afternoon, to Thursday 8 October, until lunch time, at the University of Bern.

We welcome contributions for the science session by all members. Please send in the title and abstract to by 15 September.

Details on the room and agenda will follow.

If you are not yet an EAS member but wish to do so, please contact us, e.g., to inform us that you wish to become member of EAS for free.

EAS encourages all SSAA members, in particular solar physicists to become members since EAS is now actively reaching out this community, with a Council being a solar physicist (Sven Wedemeyer)
and organising scientific sessions at its annual meetings.
